BLOG 3 - Employee Relations and Engagement during pandemic

Employee satisfaction is critical to the success of any company in the corporate sector. Only a happy employee can form positive interactions with his or her coworkers, which improves his or her productivity. The current Covid-19 event has largely altered the working environment.

Due to lock down, people are forced to live in social isolation and emotional and social distance. When there is no other option, industries and organizations are forced to work from home using various online digital platforms during COVID -19.

The term 'worker relations' refers to an organization's efforts to manage relationships between managers and employees. A company with a good representative relations program treats all employees fairly and consistently, allowing them to focus on their jobs and remain loyal to the company. Such projects also aim to prevent and resolve challenges that arise as a result of work-related circumstances (Rea, A., & Shinn, J. 2015)

There are four main factors to focus on Employee Relations as discussed by the Robbins, A. (2017).

These are:

* Feedback

 * Reward
 * Invest in employees
 * Better communication

According to Abrol, S., and Madan, V. (2020), there are various obligations to which an employer must attend in order to preserve positive employee relations:

·         Supervising and coordinating all business-related activities to ensure staff well-being and assistance;

  • Promoting video conferencing for meetings over face-to-face meetings and instilling a sense of belonging among employees.
  • Providing a secure workspace and appropriate resources for remote working that are organized, categorized, and maintained

Few important issues about how employers and HR personnel/consultants are challenged to re-think, redesign, and think outside the box in order to bring forth the best practices for running their businesses and industries by bringing the concept of "Employee-Connect" and adoption of a system of reskilling and multitasking people about technology, design thinking, analytics, and to prepare our people to be more competent and challenging while feeling connected and related to their organs.

Recommendations

1.   Effective communication is required to sustain positive employee relations among employees within an organization. Better communication bridges the distance between people and eliminates misconceptions.

2.  Face-to-face encounters are less likely during the COVID-19 epidemic. As a result, technology should be used to keep in touch with clients and coworkers.

3.  Maintaining a high level of morale is essential for staying focused on achieving goals. One should strive to keep his or her morale high, since this will aid in staff engagement.

4.  A person's goals and objectives should be clear in their minds, making them more motivated and devoted to their professional tasks.

5.   Employee relations are well-cared for by workers, ensuring that they remain happy, pleased, and committed to their job tasks. Employee engagement, on the other hand, is a consideration that workers should consider.

Conclusion

The COVID-19 pandemic period may be described as a period of examinations of relationships in both professional and personal dimensions. Every single person, directly or indirectly, is working for a better environment in which to live. As a result, it is the duty of all individuals (workers and employers) to do their best to maintain harmony and peace in organizational relationships in order for commercial operations to function smoothly. It's a good time to learn new abilities, be calm, and be enthusiastic about your profession.
